THE UTILIZATION OF COMPUTER SOFTWARE IN THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN SELECTED SECONDARY SCHOOOLS IN IBADAN

This research project was aimed at investigating the utilization of computersoftware in the teaching and learning of English language in selected secondary schools inIbadan. It is an empirical research that is complemented with series of literatureconsultation, data collection and analysis including recommendations on how computersoftware are utilized to enhance effective teaching and learning of English language. FiftyEnglish Language teachers were randomly selected from Four local governments inIbadan. A self constructed questionnaire on the utilization of computer software in theteaching and learning of English language in secondary schools was used to gather data.The data generated were analyzed using frequency counts and percentage scores. It wasfound that teachers have been making use of available computer software in their teachingprocess as little as they can while some computer software that are also needed are notaccessible and provisions are not made for them. Due to this situation and lack ofmotivation, training and provision for teachers from the appropriate quarters, teachershave been using the available computer software for other purposes than teaching.
