The Challenges of Post Consolidation in the Nigerian Banking Sector

ABSTRACT  The main objective of this study is to critically examine the challenges facing the banking sector in Nigeria after consolidation exercise. The reason for embarking on this is therefore to probe into the challenges and see how those post consolidation challenges can impact and also act as a strengthening factor in the banking industry.  data used for this work were obtained from the result of survey i.e. questionnaire, and literature review which can also be called primary and secondary source. The data was analyzed using the formal chi – square. After analyzing the data it was found that those challenges facing banking sector after consolidation have a strengthen affect on the industry. It was concluded that the exercise has yielded basketful of benefits in term of improving banking environment to renewing the customers’ confidence in the industry. It was also a recommended that bank sector reforms must not be undertaking in isolation. Some of the recommendations are: The SEC and other regulatory agency have to be empower by the various laws to enable the Arts regulate the financial system in Nigeria. That the changelings and prospect in the long run will enhance and stimulate the Nigeria economy to greater height.
