Supply Chain Management In Nigeria: The Role Of Freight Forwarding (#44815)

ABSTRACT

The study examined the role of freight forwarding in supply chain management in Nigeria, with particular reference to time and cost in cargo clearance. Freight forwarding has been portrayed by many authors and public as contributing little or nothing to the economy as a whole. It is based on this dysfunctional premise that the study investigated the time and cost of clearing by freight forwarder and self clearing option stipulated by the law. Freight Forwarders and Supply Chain Staff of Licensees in the oil and Gas Free Zone were used to collect data on time and cost of clearing by freight forwarder and Self clearing. Mann-Whitney U statistics for samples greater than 20 was used to analyze the data. The calculated Z was used in testing the hypotheses at 5% level of significance. It was statistically proved that the use of freight forwarders leads to savings in time and cost in Supply Chain Management.
