SMALL SCALE ENTERPRISES AND ITS IMPACT ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF NIGERIAN ECONOMY

In Nigeria today many petty businesses are springing up in every nook and cranny of the country almost on daily basis. Though the poor job employment opportunities available in the nation may have stimulated this trend but such businesses render services ranging from production to technology to manufacturing etc. all to the growth of the nation’s economy. The vibrancy noticed in this sector in the recent years has attracted the attention of government and global agencies clamouring for better avenues for creation of more standard and vibrant small scale enterprises as a result of its great impact on the nations’ economy.   This research work was therefore embarked upon to determine the impact of Small–scale enterprises in the development of Nigerian economy.The objective of this work among others was to find out those impacts played by small-scale enterprises in the economic development of Nigeria.  The problems they encounter, how to profer suggestions to solve these problems.The research work was carried out using a structured research method which involves the use of questionnaire, simple percentage and findings in collation and analysis of facts presented.  They include scope and nature of small-scale enterprises, sources of find available to small-scale enterprises, problems militating against small scale enterprises, the impacts and contributions of small scale enterprises in economic development of Nigeria, and government policies towards small-scale enterprises.This research should not therefore, have come at a better time than now because it will provide an opportunity for any person who may read it, to appreciate what small scale enterprises are, the expected problems a new entrant may encounter and finally proffer possible solutions to the problems.
