Abstract
leaders and social groups (age grades) individually and collectively engaged in the
practice of public relations.
For instance, the communal pe2ce and harmony enjoyed by our forebears was
occasioned by effective communication through good public relations. The honour
and respect accorded traditional rulers and institutions in African societies are
attributes of public relations practice. The town crier mode of communication is akin
to today's mass media of communication. Traditional rulers made use of them to
inform the people about events and incidents as well as receive necessary feedbacks
from the people through them. These town criers can be likened to Public relations
officers in modern practice.
