ABSTRACT

As a Muslim Hausa feminist from Nigeria the form of fundamentalism that I have had most direct experience ol and with is Muslim fundamentalism in Northern Nigeria. However, it should be made clear from (lie outset that fundamentalism, as I use the term here, is not peculiar to Islam. The Gush Eminim in Israel, the Baliarariya Janata Party (radical Hindus) and militant Sikhs in India, the Christian Right in the USA (like the Oregon Citizen’s Alliance) are all fundamentalist. Fundamentalisms then are widely varied in form and appear in many places.
