Abstract
Ethiopia’sconstructionindustryisaggressivelyexpandingthaneverbefore.Cementisthemostessentialandexpensivematerialin thisregard.Cementtakes10%–15%byvolumeofconcrete.Nowadays,theconstructionindustryischallengedbythescarcityof cementandpriceescalationofthecementmarket.However,scholarstrytoreplacecementwithpozzolanicmaterial.Besidesthis, theyinvestigatedthatbambooleafashpossessespozzolanicproperties.Ethiopiahasabout850,000hectaresoflowlandbamboo,soitisgoodtoutilizebambooleafashasareplacementmaterialforcement.Inthisstudy,thecapabilityoflowlandEthiopian bambooleafashasapartialsubstituteforcementinC-25concreteproductionwith0%,5%,10%,15%,and20%replacementof OPCbyBLAwith0.49percentwater-to-cementratiowasinvestigated.isstudyexaminesthechemicalpropertiesofBLA,
physicalpropertiesofcementpaste,workability,compressivestrength,waterabsorption,density,andsulfateattackofconcrete. iechemicalcompositionofbambooleafashwasexamined,thesummationofSiO2,AlO3,andFeO3is76.35%,andtheashwas classifiedclassNpozzolan.ienormalconsistencypercentageofwaterincreasesastheBLAreplacementamountincreases,and bothinitialandfinalsettingtimerangesincreaseastheBLAreplacementamountincreases.The compressivestrengthofconcrete for5%and10%BLAachievesthetargetmeanstrength(33.5MPa)onthe28thday,andonthe56thday,5%and10%replacements increasetheconcretestrengthby1.84%and0.12%,respectively.ewaterabsorptionandsulfateattackhavesignificantim-provementoftheBLA-blendedconcreteon5%and10%BLAcontent.Accordingtothefindings,bambooleafashpotentially substitutescementupto10%.Theoutcomeofthestudywillbalancethecementpriceescalationandincreasehousingaffordability withoutcompromiseinquality
