This cross-sectional study was conducted in Khartoum state during the period from February to November 2016. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of malaria parasite on complete blood counts. Two hundred and seven malaria-infected subjects were included in this study with the age ranged between 1-83 years old with a mean age of 21± 16 years old. Out of these, 103 (49.8%) being males and 104 (50.2%) females. Blood samples were taken from all subjects. Epidemiological data were obtained and recorded. All samples were examined to detect Plasmodium species infection in stained thick and thin blood films. Hematological parameters were obtained by analyzing EDTA blood samples, using automated hematological analyzer system (Sysmex-KX2IN). The study showed that the overall prevalence of P.falciparum, P.vivax and mixed infections between P.falciparum and P.vivax, P.falciparum and P.malariae and P.vivax and P.malariae were 175 (84.5%), 13(6.3%), 17(8.2%), 1(0.5%) and 1(0.5%) respectively. The study showed that the prevalence of Plasmodium infections was highest (44.4 %) among the age group (0-15) years old; most of them were P.falciparum infections (38.2 %).
