This short note is the first report on the use of Deproteinized leaf juice(DPJ) as a component of plant tissue culture medium. DPJ is the fraction of the juice extracted from crops that remains after the precipitation of Leaf Protein Concentrate(LPC). It is rich in non-protein nitrogen, total carbohydrates and some unidentified growth factors. In one of our experiments the shoot tips of cowpea and greenpea cultured on a minimal medium with DPJ, showed in vitro rooting from the cut portions inserted into the medium and later transformed into rooted plantlets.
