ANALYSIS OF THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES IN AWGU LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ENUGU STATE

ABSTRACT
This research work was on Analysis of the contributions of Small Scale Industries in Awgu Local Government Area. The study scrutinized the contributions of small scale industries and the role it played in Awgu Local Government Area. The study examined government policies and the role of financial institution in the development of small scale business. The study also discussed the needs for development of small scale industry in the nation’s economy, it further identified the task facing small scale businesses establishment and operation of their business. The researcher engaged both primary and secondary information for the project. Questionnaires and direct interview were carried out, also related literature text books, magazines, newspapers, journals, internet articles etc were reviewed and analyzed for or the project. Data collected were presented and analysed using tabular presentation and percentages. Based on the data analysis, the researcher was able to make the following findings: That small scale industries will make invaluable contributions to the growth and development in Awgu Local Government. That small scale industries will help to reduce if not eradicate the problem of movement of people from rural to urban cities. That the establishment of small scale industries will significantly broaden the revenue base of the government and it will enable the government to provide basic amenities for the people. Based on the findings the researcher recommended that: There is need for the establishment of small scale industries in Awgu Local Government because it will bring growth and development to the people. Small scale industries will also generate employment, improve standard of living and bring peace and progress among the communities. For government revenue to increase, business and workers should pay tax for it will enable the government provide social amenities for the people. It was therefore concluded that small scale industries are very relevant and needed in Awgu Local Government Area.
