Introduction
Litter is the improper disposal of waste products through human activities (Berglund, Koivula & Eeva 2011). Why people litter?
- Dropping litter where litter has already accumulated.
- Lack of knowledge on the effects of litter on the environment.
- Laziness & Ignorance
A promenade is a public walkway, typically along the sea front.
The Walvis Bay lagoon attracts a range of 47 species of coastal water birds that include the greater & lesser flamingos.
Littering is a major threat to the environment & has increasingly become a cause of concern in the flamingos (Kozlov, Zvereva & Zverev 2009).
Litter can cause serious internal and external injuries to flamingos resulting to death (Eeva, Koivunen & Hakkarainen 2002)
