The goal of this research is to examine to what extent oil and gas companies operating in Nigeria had been compliant with environmental regulations and laws governing their operations. The projects executed by these companies that had significantly reduced environmental pollutions and how these companies responded to environmental related issues were discussed.

The Oil and Gas companies discussed in this work have been relatively compliant, but stronger commitment and cooperation is needed from these companies if Nigeria is to achieve sustainable development in the Petroleum Industry. Also, the environmental regulatory and enforcing arm of the government should be innovative in its approach to ensuring absolute compliance.
