INTRODUCTION The concept and theories of and productivity has always been a central problem for leaders and managers, this is because of the relative importance and effect of motivation to productivity in an organization. Unmotivated employees are likely to spend little or no effort on their jobs, avoid workplace as much as possible, exit the organization if given the opportunity and produce low quality product on the other hand employees who feel motivated to work are likely to be persistent, creative and productive, turning out high quality work that they willingly undertake. They have been. They have been many scholarly published work and research related to motivation and productivity, this is because employees in an organization have different ways to become motivated, employers needs to have adequate knowledge of their employees to know the methods to use in motivating them. The dictionary of Webster’s definesmotivation as something inside people that drive them to action, while a business dictionary has also defined productivity to be measure of the efficiency of a person, machine, factory, system etc in converting inputs into useful outputs. This simply postulates that motivation is a tool that drives employees to consecrate more input to get a desired level of output. To this end this paper intends to cover aspects of motivation and productivity and their respective concepts and theories, the motivating factors for productivity and employees response to motivation or the impact of motivation on employee’s productivity.
